Brand New! Uzi Bodner – Soul Of Shabbos – A Yossi Green Medley
This medley has a lot of meaning for me.
About 9 years ago, when i became engaged to my wife I went to get a bracha from the Novominsker Rebbe Zt”l. I wanted to take the opportunity to get direction from this Tzadik.
“Rebbe,” I asked. “ What should a Yid do in order to build a Yiddeshe home?”
His answer surprised me. “A Jew should always sing Shabbos zemiros at his table.”
He didn’t know that at the time I was an aspiring singer. He didn’t know that music was the way I expressed myself and connected to other people. He didn’t know my love for song. Yet he knew exactly what to tell me.
There is nothing in our control and the world seems to be spinning faster than we can keep up. Times are sometimes hard and we have so much to do, so much to work on, so much to accomplish in this world. Yet this gadol taught me something I will never forget. Sometimes all we need is to be embraced in our cocoon of Shabbos. Sometimes we have to let the work go and focus on the transcendent joy of sitting with our families on Shabbos kodesh and remembering what it is all really about, connecting to Hakadosh baroch hu. There is no way to better express the joy of this experience than through song.
When the Rebbe was niftar, I remembered his words and began putting together some of my favorite Shabbos songs from the architect of Jewish music Yossi Green, into a medley. It is my hope that it will inspire you to use these beautiful songs on Shabbos to uplift and connect.
