Eli Schwebel – Melodies – Live in Studio for the Carlebach Virtual Dinner
Originally “Memories” off the album “Journeys 2”
Written by Abie Rotenberg
New Lyrics by Eli Schwebel
Produced by Carey Wolchok
In Memory of Sarah Leah Bas Aryeh Yehuda
On the upper west side was a lonely homeless man
The year was 1955
On a park bench he lay and stared into the night
Off 79th
He thought about his fathers legacy
And if he would live up to his name
But he longed to reach the whole world with his melodies
He turned to G-d and sang
What will become of all my melodies
Are they to scatter with the dust in the breeze
Or will they dance throughout the world
Singing songs of Praise
Until all the broken people
Find their way
Then one day a holy beggar came to him
In his House of Love and Prayer
He asked Shlomo
Why do I cry
What is it that I fear
And he told him come sing with me my Holy Child
There is Joy within your Tears
Hold on with me to all the Melodies
They’ll guide us through the years
What will become of all my melodies
Are they to scatter with the dust in the breeze
Or will they dance throughout the world
Singing songs of Praise
Until all my broken people
Find their way
On the upper west side lived a lonely homeless man
Who sang songs of love and truth
He wondered what would become of his legacy
His legacy is you
What will become of all my melodies
Are they to scatter with the dust in the breeze
Or will they dance throughout the world
Singing songs of Praise
Until all the broken people
Find their way
