New Group Kol Mevakesh Releases Their Debut Single “Im Eshkachech”

Im Eshkachech is the debut single from Kol Mevakesh, a group of Shana Bet students from Yeshivat Sha’alvim in Nof Ayalon. The group is comprised of Ari Mandelbaum from Teaneck, NJ, Ephraim Benoff from Bergenfield, NJ, Meir Kreitman from Potomac, MD, and Yitzie Scheinman from Woodmere, NY (the Hebrew word Mevakesh is an acronym for their last names). Kreitman is set to attend the University of Maryland this spring, and the other three are all planning on attending Yeshiva University beginning in May.

Although none of them knew each other before Yeshiva, the four of them met in Sha’alvim and grew close through their weekly Thursday late-night Kumzitzes and their passion for music in general. Scheinman plays the piano, Kreitman plays the guitar, and Mandelbaum plays percussion for the group, and all four of them sing. The song also features violin from Dovid Yehoshua Samuels, a Shana Aleph student from Memphis, TN learning in Migdal Hatorah.

The song Im Eshkachech was originally composed by Scheinman, a Yeshiva Boys Choir alum, as an informal project last February, and only later did the group decide to record it as a single. The song was written during times of extreme unrest and tension in Israel, and it is meant to encompass the feelings of connection to Israel and to Klal Yisrael that were hard to ignore. Being in Yeshiva during these times has given the group a much deeper understanding of the importance of Eretz Yisrael to the Jewish people, and the words of Im Eshkachech have truly taken on a new meaning for them. They hope that the song will inspire people in the same way that music has always inspired them.
