While visiting an unwell child at the hospital alongside Yedidim volunteers, legendary composer Yossi Green was taken by surprise: the child requested that Yossi compose a new song just for him—right then and there.
Yossi sat down at the piano, his fingers trembling. The child was waiting, and Yossi was unsure where to start. What words would he use? Would he attempt to write new lyrics? Could he possibly compose something sincere in a matter of seconds?
And then inspiration struck. Yossi recalled the words of the Gemara in Maseches Shabbos, “Minayin shehashchina shorah l’maaloh merashosov shel choleh?” Like the many Yedidim volunteers—like Yossi himself—the shechina is a friend to every single choleh yisroel. Those were all the lyrics Yossi needed.
He started playing, and something beautiful happened. Magically, the words formed a tune. The tune begot a tempo, and soon the tempo turned to tears in the eyes of everyone in the room.
Yossi has visited the child again multiple times since, and his beautiful composition has been adopted as the official Yedidim song, sung by Yedidim volunteers at every patient’s bed.
“Minayin” is now being presented to the public for the first time, with vocals by Meshorerim Choir, music by Shlome Vechter, and the Shevach Boys Choir by Yossi Glick of New Square.
