In honor of the 50th anniversary of the unification of Yerushalayim, an old niggun from R’ Shlomo Carlebach is being rejuvenated, called Niggun Yerushalayim. 50 years ago, when East Jerusalem and the old city were redeemed with Hashem’s help, and the Jews returned to the Kotel and the Har Ha’Bayis, R’ Shlomo composed a special niggun, which touches on the one hand the mourning of Yerushalayim and its destruction, and on the other hand it is the happiness of the Geulah in Leshana Ha’Baah Bi’Yerushalayim. As is usual for R’ Shlomo, he composed the song starting slowly and mournfully, but continues to be full of happiness and Simcha.
A major Zechus fell on the lap of the Moetzet and Yishai Lapidot to rejuvenate and re-record this special niggun, in honor of the Yovel year of the reunification of Yerushalayim. To make things even more interesting, they decided to add to the production the Klezmer Ha’Yerushalmim, led by R’ Avraham Borshtein, to release this special niggun right after Tisha B’av,in the time that Jews pass the painful memories of the Churban, to the Simcha and Emunah that it will be rebuilt!
