Rogers Park Live: A Song About Dor Hashvi’i

Rogers Park Live: A Song About Dor Hashvi’i

The King’s son turns to him one day and says: “Father, I’d like to rule more than just your kingdom. I want to rule to the entire world.” “Son, if you want to do this, you will have to do it on your own. I won’t help you this time. For when you are pushed to your core, you will find greater strength than you knew ever existed.” This is the story behind “Kingdom Kid”, the hit song off Rogers Park’s debut album “The Maggid”.

Coming a few days after Gimmul Tammuz, we reflect on the mission the Rebbe entrusted us with. The Rebbe put this mission completely in our hands. By being given a greater responsibility without weekly dollars and farbrengans, we are pushed to bring out a greater strength than would otherwise be known to us.

“We are the generation with the most impossible mission.” says Kurtz, singer and songwriter for Rogers Park. We have the least persecution as Jewish people in modern history – the most doors are open and fences down. Society is open to us and for us. Yet we need a greater level of Mesiras Nefesh than the generations of past persecutions”.

The Rebbe’s revolution started sixty-five years ago. Chabad went into next gear with Gimmul Tammuz. More Shluchim have gone out in the past 15 years than in the 50 before that. The number of yidden being reached by the Rebbe is growing exponentially. We are being tasked to find the deepest strength that we may not have known to exist had if not for Gimmul Tammuz. The greatest depth can be reached when we embrace what the situation is, and mine it for the treasure found in it.”

This is the story woven in the song Kingdom Kid. The king tells his son, “If you want to rule the world, I will not help you past here. In turn, you will find a strength that you did not know previously existed.” The story of our generation after Gimmul Tammuz. We need to do it. We each need to bring out our own Moshe Rabbeinu and thereby bring Moshiach.
