Join us for an unforgettable weekend of concerts, Jewish spirituality, Shabbaton, meals and learning commemorating the 16th Yahrzeit of Reb Shlomo. Let’s bring more light, joy and meaning into our lives by opening our hearts! Join an eclectic group of rabbis, scholars and musicians as they tap into the mystical side of Jewish tradition through heart-warming niggunim and devar torahs, stories, text, and prayer.
On Saturday Night, November 12th, at West Side Institutional Synagogue (120 West 76th Street), The Carlebach Shul will host a concert (doors open at 9:00PM) in memory of Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach, zt”l. The concert will feature performances by the shul’s internationally renowned chazzan, Yehuda Green, along with Yehuda Solomon of the Moshav band, Yisroel Williger, Eitan Katz, Elli Kranzler, and Pey Dalid. Chaim Kiss will open the evening with a musical Havdala. Discounted tickets ($30) may be purchased in advance (but no later than November 7th) at www.carlebachshul.org or by calling 212-580-2391. Although a complete sell-out is once again expected, any available tickets may be purchased at the door for $40.
The commemoration begins on Thursday night, November 10th at 7:30PM at the Carlebach Shul (305 West 79th Street) when Shlomo’s daughter Neshama Carlebach pays tribute to her father in story and song. “I began my singing career three weeks after I lost my father, my best friend. The beginning was a time of great sorrow. I eventually discovered that by singing I was not only continuing in my father’s way but was accomplishing my own life’s work as well. My father always said that when we sing, it’s like we’re praying twice,” Neshama said. Tickets for the concert cost $25 if purchased by November 7th, at the door $35.
On Shabbat, November 11th -12th, the Carlebach Shul will host a Shabbaton led by Rabbi Naftali Citron who, along with other special guests, will combine the type of singing, praying and story-telling that has made the “Carlebach Shabbaton” an international phenomenon. Guests include, Rabbi Nossen and Rebbetzin Channah Schafer from Boston, Yehuda Solomon of the Moshav Band, and Rebbetzin Emuna Witt Halevi from Jerusalem. Shabbat dinner and lunch are available by advance reservation only (reserve at www.carlebachshul.org).
On Sunday morning, November 13th, the commemoration continues at the Carlebach Shul at 9:30AM with Shacharit, followed by a unique learning program (10:15AM – 1:00PM), entitled “The Torah of the Heart.” The program will explore Reb Shlomo’s method of connecting the Torah to everyone’s heart and soul. Breakfast will be served and there will be a siyum in memory of Reb Shlomo, zt”l.
