Yadein Cohen With A New Album
Yadein Cohen was introduced to the world of music at the age of 16, when studying at the yeshiva in Kfar Haroeh. His first steps in music were recorded in a fascinating documentary series broadcasted on Channel 10 about seven years ago with he singer David Abramson. The camera’s accompanied them during the production of one of Abramson fast songs. Following the series, the song spread quickly and gained momentum, giving David Abramson a boost helping him to believe in himself.
Yadein had lots of success in the musical competitions and music became a more central part of his life. As he got older he started to write and compose more mature material and went on to established a band with some friends. They called themselves the Ariel Orchestra – Jewish Wedding Band, and Cohen was a featured soloist.
It took Yadein nearly a dozen years of work, and the time is almost here for the release of his debut album. The album is called 22 Shinyot after the name of one of the songs. “22 Shinyot Shel Sheket” was written as a kind of mussar for himself in which people are always liking and worrying about tomorrow, which makes us lose out in the present. The twelve tracks featured on the album are all created with a very high level of production, conducted by the Eran Klein one of the most talented arrangers in religious music.
The songs incorporate original texts with words from the scriptures and many musical styles which vary from rock and pop, through the yeshiva style unique to electronic processing. All the songs were composed by Yadein, except the song “Ma Ashiv” from tehillim which was composed by his great-grandfather Rabbi Yankel Moshe Silverstone, which was composed more than 80 years ago!!.
Among a variety of songs can be found a song about the settlement of Netzarim in Gush Katif which Cohen began writing in the years before the expulsion and ended only after. The song “Sheket Berchvot” written after the lynching in Ramallah in 5771 and describes the concerns of the period with great faith. The song “Raot” is a monologue describing the eve of her wedding to her father died and the song go together on the journey of Elkanah, the father of the navi Shmuel, as he brings a new spirit among the people as pilgrim, to the Shilo.
