Singer Shlomo Katz is now in the final stages of production of his upcoming new original album. Despite being a key player in the project of reinvigorating R’ Shlomo Carlebach’s less well-known songs, he already has an impressive resume of original albums with major hits that he has composed himself, among which are Niggun Nevo, Vehakohanim, Kevodo, Shma Koleinu, Shabbos Koidesh, and U’Brosh Hashana which was released only a few months ago.
Shlomo is hard at work on this new album, which was not only composed by him, but even some of the original Hebrew lyrics were written by him as well. He brought on the talented duo of Nadav Bachar and Oren Tzur to produce and arrange the album, giving his songs a wonderful taste.
Now Shlomo is releasing the album title track, called Yismach Melech. The words of the song, Yishmach melech B’Amo, V’amo B’Malko, were picked and composed by Shlomo himself, and arranged and produced by Nadav Bachar and Oren Tzur.
Shlomo recalls, “A number of years ago I was invited to give a shiur to a group of American tourists who were staying in a house on the street Yismach Melech in the Mamilla neighborhood. Something about the name of the street grabbed me, and I thought about it the whole day. Just before we began learning, we sang a number of niggunim. In middle of this singing, this song simply came out on its own. There were no words to it, but as the day went on I remembered the name of the street which so strongly spoke to me, and I added a number of words to it, and that became the name of the album.”
